Greetings from Australia

I am sitting in a tiny restaurant in Sydney, paying $2 for internet use. My brother Kyle will be married here in a few days, in case you were wondering what I was doing on the other side of the world. It's currently 10:45 in the morning on the 27th, but Livejournal assures me it's 23:45 on the 26th.

The first thing I did once I got off the airport was buy a cell phone. The have 2 kiosks right inside the airport, and the Vodaphone prices were reasonable. $128 AU for a phone and $230 worth of calling. I hadn't planned for anyone to meet me at the airport, so first I called my mother, since her workplace had provided her with an international phone. It went immediately to voice mail, so I knew there was a problem. It turns out her phone is broken. I found a computer with internet access, loaded up my gmail (since I forgot EVERYTHING I had written down at home,) and called Veronica, Kyle's fiance. She was upstairs in her car, and Kyle was looking for me, so all was well. We're staying at a "luxury budget" hotel called the Altamont - the prices have been jacked up for the holidays, but it's pretty nice.

Prices are higher than normal, but that's to be expected, as the US dollar is worth a little more. The people are friendly, and the sky is sunny. I will be wearing SPF 30 constantly, of course. I went shopping on the 26th, which is their version of Black Friday at home. It was a nightmare, but I bought sunglasses, dress shoes, and a dress shirt.

My Christmas CD will wait until after I am back in the US on the 9th. I will not be online much at all, and I will be doing zero gaming. We'll see what the withdrawal symptoms are. *grin*
