happy!!

my day - Sunday

Well, I went to a small family reunion this afternoon. I have an enormous extended family, but they are scattered all over the US, so only about 20 of us got together today in New Jersey. It was OK. I don't mind my relatives on my father's side of the family. Some of them are actually fun to talk to.

In the evening, I saw Andrea Bocelli perform with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra. The soprano that sang with him (and did some solos) was Cecilia Gasdia, and she had a better stage presence than he did. I think that has something to do with his blindness, though.

He sang quite a bid of Verdi and Puccini in the first half, and didn't seem to "wake up" until the first duet. The second half of the show was much better - he seemed much more involved. And for the encore, he did two of his more famous songs. Celine Dion wasn't there to sing a duet with the first one, but it was still great. Then he sang "Time to Say Goodbye" with Cecilia, and got a standing ovation.

Nights like this make me wish I knew Italian, Latin, and whatever other languages he might have sung. I appreciate most songs for the lyrics, but for Bocelli I will make an exception.
